What Live Football Betting Is

How In-Play Lines Move

Live prices respond to score, time remaining, field position, down and distance, and injuries. A team that scores early does not simply become a bigger favourite. The sportsbook weighs how much time is left, and a lead in the first quarter is worth far less than the same lead in the fourth. Totals fall as the clock runs down without scoring and rise after quick scores.

Why Markets Get Suspended

You will sometimes see a market lock just as you are about to bet. Sportsbooks suspend markets after a turnover, a long gain, a penalty review or an injury, because the price is out of date. It is not a glitch. By the time the market reopens, the line is different, and a bet you meant to place may no longer be offered at that price.
